This is one of my favourite topics. I have learned through the years, that Procrastination is also debilitating. So often it causes the loss of something you, (as a writer especially), can ill afford. Like TIME, or OPPORTUNITY, SELF-ESTEEM, and RESPECT from yourself, or others.
Procrastination can be regarded as a curable ‘illness’ with its medicine being self-administered POSITIVITY. For example, how often have you dithered between Yes or No, when it comes to joining a group outing? The one I refer to this time, is a morning tea at the Flutterbies Cottage in Tyalgum last week. I elected to join in at the last minute, and would have missed the opportunity to play their beautiful shiny black baby grand piano. The last time I had this chance was in 1984 on a visit to Bendigo, in Victoria. It was in a Hotel, closely associated with Ned Kelly and his crew, and the place was saturated in history. The visit led to an article bought by the magazine, Womans Weekly.
Writer’s Block can also be a form of Procrastination. Alright, you have finished your last task and just can’t decide what to write about next. Or, having decided, you can’t find the right words to start it off. A strong dose of Positivity should start you writing about anything – not necessarily about your idea. Just let words start things off for you. For example, you’ve decided to write a crime story. Write words like murder, robbery, detective, gun, police woman…oh yes.
Yvonne Clarke had been a police detective for thirty years, loved a drink of whisky from the bottle in the bottom drawer of her desk. She sighed when the telephone rang, and replaced the bottle cap as the voice rasped “Homicide here, Ma’am. Victim shot and killed with snorkel gun…”
It works too easily for me, but after a couple of attempts, you will find Procrastination aka Writer’s Block will no longer haunt you
Revived Writer, you have inspired me!
Once I start writing I’m okay, but I struggle with what to write about.
Have you thought about offering an online writer’s course? I’d be your first student.

Nothing I’d enjoy better. I’ve already begun a series of blogs about the art of writing, I’m beginning to learn just how much knowledge will be lapped up by those who have that genuine desire to express themselves. Keep an eye on my daily blogs and I’ll look forward to that wonderful message from you…”A piece of my work is to be published by….”
